"With such a heavy concert schedule and vocal activity we determined that Mr. Weiland could potentially run the risk of vocal hemmorage or suffer permanent damage hence putting him on complete vocal rest," Dr. Sid Khosla explained in the same Facebook post.
So far, one of the postponed shows has been rescheduled: Concho, OK fans will be to use tickets for the new Nov. 5 date. No word yet on when the remaining three rescheduled dates will be announced.
In May 2010, Stone Temple Pilots released an eponymous collection, the group's sixth studio set, and first since 2001's "Shangri-La Dee Da." The album landed at No. 2 on The Billboard 200, and topped the magazine's Rock and Hard Rock Albums charts.
DES MOINES (AP) — Iowa's gambling industry is poised for a major expansion.
Opening ceremonies are set this month for two plush casinos in Burlington and Waterloo, while construction projects are planned at two Council Bluffs casinos.
In Burlington, Catfish Bend Casino will open its $35 million complex at noon Monday, said Jerry Baum, the casino's general manager. The facility, on U.S. Highway 61, will offer 680 slot machines and 18 table games, plus poker.
In Waterloo, Isle of Capri Casinos will open a $175 million casino on June 30, general manager Kim Hardy said. The building will feature a pool, spa, nightclub and other amenities.
Ameristar Casinos and Harrah's Entertainment Inc. are also in fierce competition in western Iowa, with each recently announcing expansion plans for their Council Bluffs property.
Ameristar plans a $100 million expansion that the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission approved Thursday 4-0. The project, unveiled earlier this month, will double the casino's size, add a restaurant and bars, a VIP lounge and a parking garage, said Theresa Meyer, Ameristar's general manager.
Kate Cutler, chairwoman of the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission, said Ameristar will benefit from a roomier casino.
“I think people will respond to that,” she said, “and they will see an increase in traffic and an increase in revenue.”
Ameristar's plans are aimed at helping the casino regain its lead in Iowa's richest gambling market. The three casinos in Council Bluffs last year generated almost $450 million in gross revenue from 8 million admissions.
Harrah's, which operates the Horseshoe Casino in Council Bluffs, answered Ameristar's expansion plan by announcing plans Wednesday for a new hotel next to the casino. Harrah's is working with Kinseth Hospitality Group of North Liberty to develop plans for the five-story, 158-room hotel, said Michael Silberling, regional vice president for Harrah's.
The hotel is expected to open next spring. Horseshoe Casino, which replaced the Bluffs Run Casino last year following an $85 million renovation, is joining a trend among Iowa casinos to offer lodging. The Kinseth hotel will include 3,000 square feet of meeting space, a fitness facility and an indoor pool.
The Waterloo gambling complex will be Iowa's 20th casino, and the last of four new casinos authorized by the state two years ago. Hardy said there were no plans for a grand opening, although there will be a private party at 5 p.m. on June 30, two hours before the casino officially opens.
Bettendorf's Catfish Bend Casino will employ 325 people and include a bowling center, conference facilities, restaurants, an indoor-outdoor water park, an indoor go-cart center, an arcade and other amenities.
